When we get a peek at the splinters of the main group, that's when I'm most invested. The biggest shame for me is that there are some really good pages in here, that have interesting ideas, but they're glossed over in favour of a pretty weak central narrative. Some chapters (16) feel uneeded and uncomfortable in the wrong way for horror literature. It's just such an odd read - the ideas here are interesting, but the execution is rough. We follow a small cast as they link up and venture down. The book is about humanity discovering that the underworld (Hell) is real, and is inhabited. After almost 600 pages, I was left pretty unsatisfied, and the whole thing somehow felt rushed. This book has like half a dozen great ideas for a story within it, but tries to juggle them all and it ends up a mess. Unfortunately, there are like 2 threads on this entire sub about it. Finished this up yesterday as it was my most recent Book Club read, and I want to talk about it with more people.
